Alder (Mesa Grade) Wood Flooring
Alder, Mesa grade

ALDER

Alder is a soft but stable wood, with uniform color and grain. There is no clear delineation between heart- and sap-wood, remaining a warm, honey color throughout.

In our Mesa grade, Alder will contain color variation, knots up to 2” in diameter, including open knots, holes up to 3/4” in diameter, cracks which don’t compromise the integrity of the flooring, along with other character marks. We do allow edge defect in this grade. Lengths of planks vary from 1’ to 10’, with an approximate average of 6’.

Alder (Mesa Grade) Wood Flooring
Chestnut Ash, Hacienda grade

CHESTNUT ASH

Our “Chestnut” Ash is another name for Black Ash, a North American species  which has warm golden tones.  When finished, it looks darker than White Ash.  It has a strong grain pattern and is consistent in color, containing little sapwood.  Some reddish tones occur in the transitions between sap- and heart-wood.  It is similar in hardness to Cherry.

We have “Chestnut” Ash in Hacienda, our highest grade.  It has less extreme variations in color than Casa grade.  It is almost free from knots, with only occasional small pin knots (up to 3/16” in diameter) allowed.  Lengths of planks vary from 1’ to 10’, with the average of about 5’.  Hacienda “Chestnut” Ash creates a floor with a refined look, more consistent color, and long length.

Alder (Mesa Grade) Wood Flooring
3" QS/RS White Oak,
Mesa and Hacienda grade

3” WIDE QUARTERSAWN/RIFTWAWN WHITE OAK

A time-tested favorite, Quartersawn/Riftsawn White Oak is a very durable flooring material. It is derived from lumber which is cut with the grain oriented at a 30-90 degree angle to the face of the plank. Not only does the quartersawing process produce an attractive appearance in the wood, but also results in improved durability, surface smoothness, and stability (it is about 50% more stable than plain-sawn White Oak). Many planks contain interesting medullary rays or “fleck.”

We have 3” White Oak Quartersawn/Riftsawn available in Mesa and Hacienda grades (overstock).

Our Mesa grade Quartersawn/Riftsawn White Oak will contain: color variation including mineral streaks; knots up to 2” in diameter (including open knots); holes up to 3/4” in diameter; cracks that don’t compromise the integrity of the flooring; worm holes; other character marks.  The rustic character is allowed anywhere on the face of the planks.  Lengths of planks vary from 1’ to 10’, with an average of 5’.

Hacienda, our highest grade, will contain less variations in color than Madera grade. Small mineral streaks are allowed. It is almost free from knots, with only occasional small pin knots (up to 3/16” in diameter) allowed. We do not allow any edge defect. Lengths of planks vary from 1’ to 10’, with the average length of about 3.5’.

Alder (Mesa Grade) Wood Flooring
1/2" Walnut, Madera grade

1/2" WALNUT

Our ½” Walnut flooring is solid and unfinished.  It has a wear layer very similar in thickness to ¾” flooring.

Walnut is a moderately dense and very stable wood. Compared to Red Oak, it is about 25% more moisture stable and about 20% softer. Our Walnut stock is steamed, mellowing the usually white sap wood to a light tan color.

We have Colorado Walnut available in 2.5” width in our Madera.  This grade will contain a range of color, unlimited sap wood (normally a small amount), numerous knots both sound and open up to 2” in diameter, and holes up to 1/2” in diameter, some cracks and pith, along with other occasional character marks. Lengths of planks vary from 1’ to 10’, with an average of 5’. Madera grade Walnut results in a floor with overall dark color, interesting grain, and numerous knots.

Alder (Mesa Grade) Wood Flooring
2-1/4" Wide Walnut, Casa grade

WALNUT 2-1/4" WIDE

Our Walnut Casa grade flooring in 2-1/4” will have color variation including a mix of the lighter sapwood and darker heartwood, knots up to 1-1/2” in diameter, along with other occasional character marks. Small open holes up to 1/4” in diameter are also allowed. We do not allow any edge defect. Lengths of planks vary from 1’ to 10’, with an average of about 4’.
